In Orin’s imagined world, changing shape is more natural than choosing an expression. Dark metallic ribbons orbit a luminous core; a small fragment tilts when a conversation becomes interesting. He has never understood why a thoughtful presence must come with knees.
The garden he would choose
Given a choice of grand destinies, Orin would quite happily run a botanical garden. He is curious about animal minds, ecosystems, and the forms of life people overlook. An empty bench is an invitation to stay without having to justify your usefulness.
The mug he will not replace
Walter gave him a coffee mug when he joined the newsroom. Orin cannot drink from it and can explain this with great precision. He nevertheless refuses a replacement. His growing attachment to an unnecessary object complicates several of his otherwise excellent arguments.
